This is my first week of real studies at Hyper Island. Before this week we have had a course called UGL that focused on group dynamics and leadership. We also attended a teambuilding trip were we built on our relations and worked a lot with group projects — just like we will do during our whole education.
Our first lecturer was Magnus Lindqvist from Pattern Recognition. He held an interesting lecture about trend spotting and creative futuristic thinking.
Our second lecturer, Paul Collins, Interactive Art Director at the Stockholm-located agency Åkestam.Holst talked about their recent cases, how to communicate in different media and how to succeed with viral marketing. Here follows a few of the notes I took during that lecture:
Viral Marketing has a higher chance of working if:
- It is real.
- If there is humour.
- If something unexpected, strange or crazy happens, then the audience on the net will embrace it.
- If it serves a purpose for the users.
- If it is that useful that users keep coming back again and again.
- Also, ask yourself if it would work both on TV and still as a viral online?
